Welcome to the new home of The Crusty Computer Club. Firstly, we’d just like to say thank you for supporting us on our System/34 and our Canadian rescue efforts, and would like to apologize for the seemingly slow progress on our Canadian haul. We promise, things are moving on the Canadian front and in fact we have some exciting news to share with you all.

Several months ago, our contact in Toronto alerted us to a few new discoveries in his barns: He has located the tape drive and the DASD to our System/38! As of this post, the tape drive and DASD have entered the USA without issue and are currently sitting in a warehouse nearby on their way to us. As our System/38 was removed from service in what we believe to be fully intact and operational condition, we are excited to finally connect all the peripherals back together and to finally try to IPL our System/38.

Our 9370 mainframe is still waiting its turn in the limelight. No major updates to share here – we determined that the DASD for the 9370 can fairly easily be backed up, as they all use Memorex-Telex DASD that emulate IBM 933x IPI DASD. Now, IBM’s modified IPI interface is not documented anywhere but the disk units inside the Memorex boxes are just standard Seagate SCSI disks! We simply need to image the drives and we intend on converting the units to one of the numerous SD card SCSI emulator options out there.

We want to thank you for support; it is thanks to your generosity that we can afford to pay the lease on our office building and acquire parts and materials to keep our big iron collection running.
